For all of us, these past few years have been an unpleasant object lesson in the old Yiddish adage, “Mann Tracht, Un Gott Lacht” - Man Plans and God Laughs.
We’ve all had plans adjusted, readjusted and canceled outright, and it is dispiriting. And yet, our spirits need to connect to each other and to the Divine.
So, with excitement (and some trepidation) we are going to try again to gather in person for davvening this Friday night. Here’s the plan:
-
Friday Kehillah at BHA 4:00-5:30 PM - kehilah in the Outdoor Classroom in the BHA yard, outside the building.
-
The Language of Truth/Sefat at the BHA Fire Pit 5:00-6:00 PM - around a fire, outside the building and (hopefully) streaming on facebook.
-
Kabbalat Shabbat at the BHA Fire Pit 6:00-7:00 PM - around a fire, outside the building and (hopefully) streaming on facebook.
-
Community Potluck Dinner 7:00 -8:30 PM - indoors in the BHA Community Room, for those who are fully vaccinated if over the age of five years old (and bring vegetarian food to share).
I am well aware that not everyone will be comfortable with this plan; I also know that not everyone is comfortable with our current model of davvening either.
I also know that the health of any community rests on the degree to which people are willing to commit to that community. So, even though this will be imperfect in all sorts of ways, I trust that our collective commitment to Judaism and to this community are stronger than the imperfections that will inevitably be part of this and any other program we do.
For those who are comfortable taking part in person, I hope to see you on Friday night for whichever parts feel right for you; for those who prefer to take part online, I hope the technology cooperates and you can join us on facebook.
With blessings,
Rabbi Brent
