1:15 Shammai used to say: make your [study of the] Torah a fixed practice; speak little, but do much; and receive everyone with a cheerful face.
As interesting as the conversations can be at Masa, sometimes it’s good to focus on doing something with our hands.
Our Friday students have begun new units. Half of them began to explore what makes food “Jewish” by making borscht and learning about borscht (they even brought in some Borscht Belt humor, thanks to Wendy!). The other half began work on a play for the BHA Community Hanukkah party. They have some great ideas for presenting this year’s story!
On Sunday, in addition to our usual learning, we’ve been preparing for Grandfriends’ Day. The younger students have been working on decorations, as well as preparing some entertainment for their Grandfriends. Our B-Mitzvah class have really been taking on a leadership role at Masa by teaching the younger children a song to share with the Grandfriends, as well as preparing to host the program!
Last Sunday, our students took the time to “do much” in order to support our community. The B-Mitzvah class went to Main Street and posted flyers advertising the BHA Blood Drive on November 17. The other Masa students went outside and helped with the fall cleanup. They all worked hard to contribute, and I think we’ll all appreciate their efforts!
Please make sure to register for Grandfriends’ Day. We want to make sure that every child has a Grandfriend to share the day, and we also want to make sure that all of the community members who want to spend time with Masa children get the opportunity to do so. I know that children really appreciate these chances to get to know people they don’t see regularly!
Coming up:
This Friday and Sunday, members of the Atid (Future) Committee are going to come and speak with Masa students in small groups, to find out what the youngest members of our community are hoping for the future of BHA. This is their best chance to have their voices included, so please do your best to have your children arrive on time!
Friday: Masa from 4:00-6:00, Mini Minyan at 5:30, Candle lighting, blessings, and potluck at 6:00
Sunday: Masa from 9:30-12:30
Sunday, November 24: Grandfriends’ Day, 11:00-12:30
Friday, November 29 and Sunday, December 1: NO MASA (Thanksgiving weekend)
Friday, December 20: Community Hanukkah Party, 5:00-7:00. Bring your favorite Hanukkah foods to share at the potluck!
