1:18 Rabban Shimon, son of Gamaliel used to say, “The world stands on three things: On justice, on truth and on peace.”

It has been a very busy couple of weeks! I hope that everyone had joyful and meaningful holidays. Our B-Mitzvah class did a lovely job leading children’s services on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, and they are preparing to read some lines of Torah at the Simchat Torah celebration next Sunday night!

Our younger children made a number of different apple-based treats for Rosh Hashanah. I hope they helped to bring some sweetness to your new year!

Our students have been continuing to learn from Pirkei Avot. They explored the ways that atoning for our mistakes can lead to justice, truth, and peace in the world. The younger students also did some process drama about how it might feel to be a literal scapegoat for other people’s problems!

The holidays come quickly this time of year, so right after Yom Kippur, we learned about the requirements for a sukkah by completing the BHA sukkah and by building a sukkah for the Preschool! Our students made sure that the sukkot they built were kosher, and also put some effort into hiddur mitzvah, making the ritual objects they were creating beautiful.

Even though the holidays are winding down, there are still many things coming up on our calendar!

Masa this Friday at 4:00, followed by Mini Minyan at 5:30, Kiddush and Blessing of the Children at 6:00, potluck, and Classic Shabbat Services at 7:00.

Masa this Sunday from 9:30-12:30. Children will be preparing for the Simchat Torah celebrations!

Elizabeth Greenblatt is leading a teaser session for the  Sexuality Education workshop she’s offering for parents this fall. The workshop will be in the Main Street Sukkah on Sunday, October 20th, at 4:00. There will be some informal childcare available. Be sure to register for her longer workshops ASAP: registration closes on October 22nd!

Next Sunday at 5:30, we’ve got the closing picnic for Open to the Sky. Bring a meal for your family, and then join the BHA community as we parade down Main Street with the Torahs, and conclude in the BHA sukkah with a celebration of Simchat Torah.

Further down the road:

We will celebrate Grandfriends’ Day on November 17. Keep an eye out for an email with more information about registering for this event!

The BHA Hanukkah Party will be on FRIDAY, December 20. We will have activities where children can prepare for Hanukkah, which begins on Sunday, December 23.

There is NO MASA on Sunday December 23!
