Are You Ready for the Carnival?

We continued our exploration of mitzvot and Purim last Sunday at Masa. The children discussed the four mitzvot of Purim--reading and hearing the megillah, having a party, giving gifts of food to our friends, and giving gifts to the poor. Our older students have also been continuing their study of the prayer service, and digging into what the words we say mean.

Several classes focused on the mitzvah of hearing the megillah read (in age-appropriate versions). Some of our students also made plans for having a party and giving gifts of food to people who would appreciate them.

This coming Sunday, we will observe the mitzvah of celebration and happiness at the Purim Carnival! Register in advance to save time at the door! A suggested donation of $36 will give admission to your whole family, snacks, all of the games and activities, and two raffle tickets! (You can buy more raffle tickets at the Carnival with cash.)

Several families have signed up to offer some new activities this year, and I think it’s going to be fun for our students, and for kids of all ages! I know I’m excited to see our community’s creativity!

On Sunday, please have your child enter through the front door so that we can set up for the Carnival in the social hall. And please stay for a few minutes after the Carnival to help us set up for Monday!

Schedule for Sunday:

9:30 -- Students arrive for Masa in the upstairs sanctuary; parents can help with set-up in the social hall.

10:30 -- Parents and families are invited to join us upstairs for the Purim skit and singing.

11:00 -- The Purim Carnival begins!

1:00 -- Many hands make light work: please help us to rearrange the social hall for Preschool on Monday morning and the Community Megillah reading on Monday evening!

The Community Purim Megillah reading will be on Monday, March 9. There will be a reading for children at 6:00, and the full Hebrew megillah will begin at 7:00.
