Listening for the Future of BHA

Rabbi Brent Spodek

When was the last time someone took time to really listen to you?  Like, really listen? For most of us, this is a rare occurrence. In fact, being listened to (without rebuttals, dinging phones, or other competing demands on our attention) can feel downright luxurious!

This fall, BHA members will be extending a listening ear to the BHA community as part of the Atid process. Atid is an effort to hear the cares and concerns of BHA’s people, and to collectively envision BHA’s future. Listening to each other, one-to-one and face-to-face, is at the core of this process.

We have trained our first five “Atid Ambassadors” in the art of one-to-one conversations, and they are beginning to fan out into BHA’s membership to set up 30-minute conversations about BHA.  (If you’re contacted for one of these conversations, please say yes!)

In order to reach all 121 BHA households -- and folks in the larger circle of the BHA community -- our cadre of Atid Ambassadors (conversation-havers) must grow.  All it takes to become an Atid Ambassador is to be a member of BHA, attend one 90-minute training, and to commit to have at least 4 conversations with BHA folks before Thanksgiving.  Register for an upcoming training here:

The future of this community will be determined by this community, in conversation with one another.  We invite you to start listening.

If you have any questions about this process, please be in touch!
