Atid II-Setting the course for BHA's Future

Rabbi Brent Spodek

Almost 10 years ago, this community launched a large, ambitious listening campaign which set the agenda for life at Beacon Hebrew Alliance.

It was called the Atid (Ah-teed) Project - Atid means future in Hebrew and this was an effort to chart our path for the future.

That project shaped and fueled the extraordinary growth of this community over the past decade. However, a lot has happened in the past ten years, and it is time to revisit what defines our community. So, this spring, we are launching Atid II - The Next Chapter, the goals of which are:

  1. To learn about the cares, commitments, and concerns of BHA’s membership;
  2. To distill those concerns into a publicly available set of priorities for the 2020s and beyond;
  3. and to develop a membership and governance model that will help us build our community around those priorities

In the course of the first Atid, a team of about a dozen people met one-on-one with nearly 100 people and distilled what emerged from those conversations into six core priorities: Community, Family, Social Justice, Learning, Spiritual Practice and Welcoming.

Now, Atid II will have two teams - an Experience team and a Structure team. It might be useful to think of them as focusing on the “front of the house” (Experience) and the “back of the house” (Structure)

The Experience team, chaired by Sarah From and Jesse Lunin Pack, will be similar to the 2010 Atid team, with a focus on learning priorities through one-on-one conversations and small house parties, possibly with a digital survey component as well.

The Structure team, chaired by Karen Mayer and Rusty Stahl, will look at how we are formally organized as a community and consider how we might be better structured to pursue our goals.

We will share more information in the coming weeks and months; if the meantime, if you have any questions or want to be involved, please be in touch with Rabbi Brent.

With blessings,

Rabbi Brent & Deb
