Selichot Melava Malka
Saturday, September 21, 2019 • 21 Elul 5779
6:30 PM - 8:30 PMBeacon Hebrew Alliance 331 Verplanck Ave. Beacon, NYCome to our wonderful melava malka, Beacon's Jewish folk-singing hootenanny, as we celebrate Selichot. For many Jews, the High Holiday season begins with Rosh HaShanah and the start of the new month of Tishrei. Jewish tradition, however, teaches that the preceding month of Elul is a time of soul-searching and reflection to prepare oneself for the magnitude of the Days of Awe. It is during this time that we observe Selichot. We'll sing some prayers that stimulate the part of our hearts which responds to music; we'll read some poems that stimulate the part of our hearts which responds to words. Share a poem and/or teach a song that encourages reflection. Please bring instruments, your favorite vegetarian appetizer, dessert or drink to share.
