Summary |
We had a very full program last Sunday morning! Community member Julie Seltzer came to share one of her particular letters of the Torah with our oldest students. Julie is one of the very few soferets (female Torah scribes) in the world! She explained what she does, and then gave the students some time to look at the Torah scroll. Students then continued working on mindfulness with Rob Lieblein.
Our youngest students learned about how Rebecca's kindness and hospitality let Avraham's servant know that she would be a good bride for Isaac. Then they spent time learning some Hebrew, singing songs, and continuing to prepare for Grandfriends' Day.
Grandfriends' Day will be on November 18. We ask students to arrive at 9:30 as usual, and then Grandfriends will join us from 10:30-12:30. There will be a snack for the children and their grandfriends to share. The children will spend time talking with their grandfriends, and will also share some of what they have been learning.
It is a joy to spend time teaching the children of this community. But I have also been spending time over the past week making plans to improve the safety of the children and adults who come to learn here. Making the full security plan for our community will take both time and money, but we have been finding things we can do immediately to plan for the safety and protection of everyone who comes here.
The most relevant thing to know is that we will be keeping the building doors locked, except for during drop-off and pick-up times. Please enter and exit through the kitchen door. If the door is locked, please ring the doorbell. PLEASE DO NOT leave doors open! I will let you know about other security protocols as they are developed.
Reminder: there will be NO MASA on Friday or Sunday of this week. I'll look forward to seeing our 3rd-7th grade students on Friday the 16th, and to seeing everyone on Sunday the 18th.
