I hope that everyone had some time to relax over this past weekend, and also that you had some time to reflect on things for which you are grateful.
The month of Kislev is more than half-finished, which means that Hanukkah is approaching quickly. This year, we are encouraging families to collect themed items for each night of Hanukkah:
- Breakfast (cereal, shelf-stable milk, breakfast bars)
- Lunch (peanut butter, tuna fish, any shelf-stable proteins)
- Dinner (canned soups, canned pasta, more shelf-stable proteins)
- Snacks (granola bars, single-serving canned fruit, shelf-stable healthy snacks and treats)
- Hygiene (travel-sized deodorant, alcohol-free mouthwash, lotion, toothpaste, shampoo, soap)
- Babies & Kids (diapers, winter mittens/hats/scarves, coats, socks)
- Women (feminine hygiene products, winter gloves/hats/scarves, coats, socks)
- Men (winter gloves/hats/scarves, coats, socks)
You can bring the items to the Hanukkah party on December 9th. Children and adults will be able to make cards to include in boxes packed for delivery to local social service providers.
This Sunday's journal topic will be: Hanukkah begins tonight! The word "Hanukkah" comes from a Hebrew word that means dedication. "Dedication" means making a promise, and keeping it. What is a promise you have made, and kept?
New snow policy: After observing that many families were able to reach BHA after the most recent snow storm, our new snow policy is that Julia will announce via the Remind app whether Masa will be in session by 12:00 PM for Fridays, and by 7:30 AM for Sundays.
This week: This Friday, we will have Masa from 4-6. There will be no Mini Minyan or potluck this week!
On Sunday, Masa will be from 9:30-12:30 as usual. Please be prompt when picking up your children, as we've got a lot to cover in our teacher meeting this week!
Sunday, December 2nd, is the first night of Hanukkah. We will be honoring educators at the Bicycle Menorah at 5:30 PM. Check out this link for more information about the Bicycle Menorah!
Our Hanukkah party will be on December 9 from 11:00-1:00. (Masa will begin as usual at 9:30 so the students can prepare for the party.) Please check your email or contact Leilah Ezra to sign up for your shift helping to run the party!
