I hope that everyone is getting their masks and noisemakers ready, and is looking forward to sharing some Purim treats! Our youngest children decorated and filled some treat bags to give away this Sunday. They learned that mishloach manot (the packages of treats we give away on Purim) need to have foods that require at least two different blessings!
The third through fifth grade students spent some time searching for Hebrew words in a section of the megillah, and then continued to work on the skit they will share before the Purim carnival.
Meanwhile, our oldest children have moved on past Purim, and continued working on creating a Passover haggadah for the younger children to use as we learn about that holiday. This week, they spent time comparing the ways different versions of the haggadah handle the earlier parts of the seder. I am enjoying watching these young people grow towards Jewish adulthood!
The community megillah reading is TOMORROW. The reading at 6:00 will be child-focused (with a megillah scroll illustrated by our first and second grade children). The 7:00 reading will be aimed at adults, although children are welcome to stay.
On Sunday, we'll have the 25th annual Purim carnival. This has been a great fundraiser for education at BHA in the past, and we're hoping to raise money for children's programming again this year. There will be snacks and lunches available for purchase, as well as the usual tickets for carnival games and raffles. We are set up to take credit cards this year, so don't worry if you forget to bring cash (and if you've got Google or Apple Pay set up on your phone, you won't even need a credit card!)
The children have prepared a Purim play to share the story of Purim from some new angles. We will have that upstairs in the sanctuary, beginning at 10:45 on Sunday. We hope you can join us then!
