Last week in Masa, we focused on the idea of holiness: what does it mean, what acts are holy, and why do we have rules in our lives? Even our youngest children had serious thoughts about the topic.
While the b-mitzvah class continued with a deeper discussion, our younger students spent time learning some Hebrew and working on items for their Shabbat bags. The kindergarten students made besamim boxes (spice boxes to sniff on Saturday evening as Shabbat goes away for another week). The first and second grade (joined by some very interested third through fifth grade students) dipped beeswax candles for the beginning of Shabbat.
This Friday, BHA will welcome new members at Shabbat. We encourage families to join us at 5:30 for Mini Minyan, at 6:00 for kiddush and potluck, and at 7:00 for musical Shabbat services. This is a great opportunity to meet and greet the newest members of our community! (Friday Masa students should arrive at 4:00 as usual.)
We will not have Masa on Sunday, May 12, in observance of Mothers Day.
Looking ahead, the final day of Masa will be Sunday, June 9. We invite families to join us at 11:30 as we head to Memorial Park for a picnic celebrating both the end of Masa and Shavuot!
Summer is coming up quickly. If you are interested in sending your child to a Jewish camp this summer, but unable to afford the cost, speak to Rabbi Brent. There are some funds available to help families give their children this experience. If your family is financially able, it would be wonderful if you could contact Rabbi Brent, and donate to a summer camp scholarship fund for families in our congregation!
