Beacon Hebrew Alliance is looking for a leader who can serve as the educational and administrative director of our educational efforts.

We are a rapidly growing synagogue organized around the big idea that Judaism is a pool of living waters in which to swim, rather than a fragile heirloom we're afraid of breaking. In this community,  there are no "consumers" of Jewish life, only "producers."

Specifically, we are looking to transform our learning environment into an experiential one, focused on a project- and retreat- based approach to learning, with the goal of helping entire families engage with Judaism as a resource for addressing the real issues of lived life. Before applying for the position, please review this draft concept paper for the direction in which we hope to move.

The Director of Family Education will be responsible for:
  1. creating informal and formal educational opportunities for adults and children alike.
  2. developing our staff, including performance evaluation and feedback.
  3. developing and encouraging a collaborative atmosphere among  our clergy, our Hebrew School Students, their families and the extended BHA community.
  4. cultivating reliable administrative processes for budgeting, communications, etc. as they apply to the educational goals of BHA.
The successful candidate will have:
  • Exceptional leadership, communication and management skills.
  • Outstanding project management skills and a creative, solution-oriented approach to education.
  • The ability to work creatively and flexibly with our clergy (Rabbi Brent Spodek and Cantor Ellen Gersh), our lay leadership and the larger community while maintaining high standards of excellence.
  • The ability to coach and lead a diverse array of community educators in a collaborative and collegial work environment. We hope to have a wide array of people teaching, and not all will have had prior teaching experience.
  • The ability to inspire others with his or her love of Jewish living and learning.
  • In depth knowledge of the latest trends in Jewish education and the ability to adapt and implement cutting-edge programs.
  • An understanding of a broad array of educational modalities and technologies including: formal, experiential, individual, group, and on-line learning,  and use of emerging technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of Judaism, Hebrew and Jewish education.
This is a two-thirds time position with a competitive salary. For those interested in year-round, full-time employment, there is the possibility of a joint position with Eden Village Camp.

Interested candidates should send their resumes and a cover letter describing their best teaching experience to Deb Davidovits at director.search@beaconhebrewalliance.org by Friday, February 13, 2015. If you are interested in the additional opportunity at Eden Village Camp, please indicate so in your cover letter.
