Not an idiot

For some of us, it's easy to think that we're right and the other guy is an idiot.

For some of us, it's easy to think that the other guy is right and we're an idiot.

Consistently, the hardest thing for me to recognize is that I can be right and the other guy can be right at the same time.

For a few years now, Beacon has been home to an experiment to see if we can recognize how more than one person can be right at the same time.

It started three years ago when Pastor Ben Larson Wolbrink of First Presbyterian and I co-taught a class on Jewish and Christian perspectives on the book of Genesis.

Then we expanded it to include Pastor Ricardo Pacheo of Tabernacle of Christ and Pastor Ed Benson of New Vision Church of Deliverance when we looked together at the Exodus story.

This year, we're including also Pastor Lieta Singleton of St James AME Zion Church and Pastor Mark Aarstad of Salem Tabernacle as we explore the book of Psalms.

These gatherings are incredible opportunities to explore the poetry of Psalms, but more than that, they are an opportunity to explore other people, our neighbors and perhaps if we permit it, our friends. They have different backgrounds, different ethnicities, different view of religion, scripture and more. That's what makes this class so rich.

We'll be hosting the Psalms class Thursday night here at BHA. I hope you'll join us - it should be an opportunity to learn about how the other guy isn't an idiot and neither are we.
