Dear Friends:
One of the most remarkable world-music ensembles, Pharaoh's Daughter, is coming to Beacon to perform a benefit concert for Beacon Hebrew Alliance. You want to be there!
The band, led by Basya Schechter, will be bringing their wild instrumental blend of traditional Hasidic influences, Arabic rhythm and African beats to the Towne Crier Cafe on April 14, 2016. Thanks to the generosity of Heidi and Richard Rieger and Phil Ciagener of the Towne Crier Cafe, 100% of ticket sales will support BHA, including our efforts to begin a new Jewish pre-school in Beacon.
Leonard Cohen said of Pharaoh's Daughter's last album, Dumiyah, "[it is] such a delight - the groove, the purity, the skill. So fresh and yet so familiar, as the work of the heart always is."
Pharaoh's Daughter? sounds as if Pink Floyd and PJ Harvey crossed paths in an Israeli cafe and took a road trip to South Africa, joining up with Radiohead in Morocco along the way.
Basya will be sharing songs from her previous albums as well as a new collection called "Songs of Desire," which draws on the erotic and mystical aspects of the biblical Song of Songs.

This is an incredible opportunity to hear some of the very best world music around, and support Hudson Valley's home for loving, creative Judaism. You don't want to miss this!
See you on April 14th!
