Dear Friends,

It's been more than three years since I was diagnosed with leukemia. I am so lucky to be so incredibly healthy now that it almost feels like it happened to another person, in another lifetime. The only reason I am here to feel this way though, is because of the dozens of units of platelets and whole blood I received. There is always someone else who is newly diagnosed and needs that same miracle; or someone in a car crash; or a newborn baby. We all have the privilege of walking through our regular lives, but for someone out there, today is their worst day. You have the power to make that worst day a little better.

I am alive today because someone, somewhere, donated blood and platelets and bone marrow. I can't give (the NY Blood Center really doesn't want my blood) but if you can, I hope you'll turn out to donate at Units of Love on Sunday, May 22 at Lewis Tompkins Fire House, 13 South Avenue, Beacon).

Together with friends from City of Beacon Fire Department, Bank Square Coffeehouse, BeaconArts (BACA), Beacon Independent Film Festival, Beacon Music Factory, Beacon Pilates, BEAHIVE, Drink More Good, I Am Beacon, Peoples Bicycle, Randolph School, Re>Think Local, Salem Tabernacle, Shambhala Yoga Center, and Zero to Go, we can save lives.

I know many people can't donate, for many reasons, but there are many other ways to participate. Please forward this email on to friends and lists, and share the event on facebook or be in touch with Rachel Ishofsky about volunteering on May 22.

Most important, register here as a donor: http://bit.ly/1b8C1sN. Facebook and emails are essential for turning people out, but that link is the only way to register for an appointment on May 22. Of course, walk ins are always welcome.

Thank you for helping to save a life, as someone else saved mine,

Alison Spodek
