Dear Friends:

I'm not under any illusion about marches.

I'm not under any illusion that if we march, the government will end its war on people of color.

I'm not under any illusion that if we march, the government will value our children more than our guns.

I'm not under any illusion that if we march, the government will stop seperating children from their parents at the border.

Nevertheless, I and Cantor Ellen Gersh will be marching with the Poor People's Campaign in Albany on Monday, and I hope you'll join us.

We'll be marching because feeling overwhelmed is a luxury in which we can no longer indulge. I don't think that any of us can.

The rabbinic tradition teaches that "anyone who is able to protest against the sins of the world and does not is liable for the sins of the world." Even the elders are held liable for failing to protest against the sins of the government. 

I know we have a million reasons why we can't make it on Monday, and still, I hope you will join us. When elected officials in one of the most corrupt state governments in the country look out their windows on Monday, I want them to see the people they are supposted to represent. I want them to see us.
