Rabbi Brent Spodek

We're introducing a few digital tools we’ll be using extensively during this crisis:

Zoom is the platform we’ll be using for real-time (as opposed to pre-recorded) video calls. It is similar to facetime or skype, if you are familiar with them, but more robust. This will be the way we share davvening, learning and social gatherings. You will be able to access BHA programs through a link in your web browser, but you might find it easier if you install the zoom app on your computer and/or smartphone. You can access downloads here for iphonesandroid phones or computers

Whatsapp is a text messaging system that is easily accessed via your phone or computer, and makes it very easy to join or leave group text chains. You install it first on your iphone or android phone, and then can also install it on your computer if you choose. Some groups, such as the women’s BHA Rosh Hodesh Group and BHA Putnam County already exist; and others will be added soon.

Slack (for Preschool Parents ONLY): the Preschool community is using the application Slack to connect through chat-like "channels." Participants view and participate on these channels when they wish, with text, audio, photo, and video.

We are well aware that not everyone is familiar or comfortable with these technologies; we also know that at least for the foreseeable future, these are the mechanisms we have available to us. If you need help in getting these programs installed, please reach out to Jesse Lunin Pack at jesse@beaconhebrewalliance.org and he will get back to you and help walk you through the process.

We will follow up soon with more details about programs that we will be offering online and look forward to being in touch. Please feel free to reach out to us via phone and email if there is any way we can be supportive.
