Days of Awe Yom Kippur Children's Program
Wednesday, October 9, 2019 • 10 Tishrei 5780
9:00 AM - 1:00 PMBHA 331 Verplanck Ave., BeaconOver the holidays, we offer services and activities for children and families in the mornings. We will reflect on the themes of the holidays, hear stories, do activities, and have holiday services. On Rosh Hashanah, older children will visit the upstairs sanctuary during the shofar service.
Programs for children ages 2-5 will be primarily led by our wonderful pre-school director, Ilana Friedman. Programs for children ages 6-12 will be led by our Education Director, Julia Gross Alexander, and by our amazing MASA teachers. Children ages 5 and under will need to be accompanied by an adult. Please make sure to register your children for each day they will attend, so that we can be sure to have age-appropriate activities and so that we will have enough supplies for everyone!
Here is our schedule for the specific times of services:
Yom Kippur schedule:
9-10 am: Ilana Friedman, our pre-school lead teacher and director, will conduct High Holiday activities for children ages 3-6. Ilana will use storytelling and exploration to heighten consciousness of this holidays' themes. We ask parents of this younger group to remain with their children during the program.
10 am - 1 pm: We will have services and activities for children between the ages of 5 and 12. We will reflect on repentance and forgiveness, and on remembering and honoring those who are no longer with us.
While there is no specific fee for participating in the Days of Awe at BHA, we invite you to contribute to BHA so we can continue to be the home for vibrant Jewish life in the Hudson Valley. If you'd like to offer a tribute to a loved one in our Days of Awe booklet that will be distributed through out the holidays, either in honor or in memory of, please consider purchasing a tribute when you register for the High Holiday services.
In order to fulfill the words of the prophet Isaiah, who insists that we share our bread with the hungry, we ask that everyone joining us for the Days of Awe bring a bag of non-perishable food for the Beacon Community Action Partnership to feed people in need.
