RISING: An Emek Adventures Hike
Sunday, September 22, 2019 • 22 Elul 5779
11:00 AM - 5:00 PMSurprise Lake Camp, 382 Lake Surprise Road, Cold Spring, NY 10516
The Days of Awe are drawing near and now is the time to prepare ourselves for the work of spiritual growth.
On September 22, join nationally recognized spiritual leader Rabbi Brent Chaim Spodek for RISING - an elevation of our bodies through the spectacular Hudson Highlands and an elevation of our souls thought the spiritual insights of the Jewish calendar.
Drawing on contemplative and Jewish sources, including Alan Lew’s This is Real and You Are Completely Unprepared, Rabbi Brent will facilitate exercises to help us let go of stale narratives in our lives, center ourselves in the present and set our intentions for the future.
We'll ascend via the Wilkinson Trail, which is a challenging trail which gains roughly 1800 feet over approximately five miles. We will not be moving terribly fast and folks in their 70s have been on this hike; however, it is not an appropriate hike for children younger than 15 years old. Assume we'll be on the trail for five to six hours.
We'll park our cars at Surprise Lake Camp; from there, we'll shuttle down to the trail head and then hike back up to the camp, where we will end our journey with some local beers and s'mores around a campfire! If you wish to participate but will be arriving via Metro North, please indicate that on your registration form.
For more information, or if you have any questions, please be in touch with Faith Adams at Beacon Hebrew Alliance.
Rising is a project of Emek Adventures, the center for outdoor spirituality at Beacon Hebrew Alliance. Every month, we have very accessible Soul Strolls for Adults and Children as well as occasional public and private guided adventures.
