Making Tachrichim for the BHA Chevra Kadisha
Sunday, November 7, 2021 • 3 Kislev 5782
3:00 PM - 7:00 PMBHA, 331 Verplanck Ave., Beacon NYThe traditional clothing for burying the dead are tachrichim, simple white garments or furnishings, including a winding sheet (sovev). Come help make the Tachrichim for our members. Sewers are needed (with your machines, and sewing kits please) but if your skills are limited to tracing patterns and cutting out fabric that is most welcome as well.
We will work in shifts so as to keep the amount of people gathered to a minimum. You must be vaccinated to participate and masks must be worn at all times. You must register and upload proof of Covid-19 vaccination. Each participant will have their own work table. Space will be limited to 8 participants per session, the two sessions are 3:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m., or 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
If you wish to stay the whole time, you may want to bring a snack. Eating and drinking will be away from the production line (preferably outside if the weather permits) so that we can remain safely masked while working together.
It is an honor to be able to assist the Chevra Kadisha by producing the vestments which our dead will be honored to wear as they return to the earth from whence they came. Please join us in continuing this tradition.
