Fighting White Supremacy From Charlottesville to Capitol Hill
Thursday, April 8, 2021 • 26 Nisan 5781
7:00 PM - 8:00 PMThree years ago, white supremacists meticulously planned and carried out a violent attack on Charlottesville that resulted in dozens of injuries and the death of Heather Heyer. Fast forward three-and-a-half years: with far-right extremists even more emboldened by years of disinformation, conspiracies, and hate, we witnessed an unprecedented attack on Congress by violent insurrectionists intent on disrupting our peaceful transition of power and harming our nation's leaders.
Join Integrity First for America Executive Director Amy Spitalnick and Professor Taneisha N. Means for a critical conversation about racial justice; the path from Charlottesville to Capitol Hill; how this movement of violent white supremacists and other far-right extremists has grown; and, most importantly, how we bring these individuals and hate groups to account, starting with IFA's landmark Charlottesville lawsuit, Sines v. Kessler, which takes on the leaders of this violent movement and heads to trial this fall.
We will be joined by acclaimed singer-songwriter Dar Williams for a performance to kick off the evening and Beacon for Black Lives organizer Justice McCray.
Co-sponsored by: the City of Beacon Human Relations Commission --- Beacon Prison Action --- First Presbyterian Church, Beacon --- The Resnick Institute at SUNY New Paltz --- St Andrew and St. Luke Episcopal Church, Beacon --- Vassar Temple, Poughkeepsie --- Beacon 4 Black Lives --- Jewish Federation of Dutchess County --- Melanin Unchained, Newburgh --- Next Step Hudson Valley, Newburgh --- Vassar Jewish Students Union --- Newburgh Jewish Community Center
