It is a longstanding Jewish tradition to bless the renewal of the moon once each month. Called Birkat Halevana––"blessing of the moon"–– in Sephardic tradition (Kiddush Levana––"sanctification of the moon"–– in Ashkenazic), the ritual is generally performed between the third and seventh nights of the new moon.
