BHA at the Movies: The Lemon Tree
Sunday, March 13, 2022 • 10 Adar II 5782
5:00 PM - 6:00 PMReceive Zoom Link With RegistrationOur movie discussion series last year was such a hit that we are doing it again. We have some terrific films lined up for BHA at the Movies - Take 2.
Grab your popcorn and let’s get together to talk about some terrific films with Jewish themes. We will meet to discuss the films via Zoom after we've prescreened them in our homes. There will be a moderator for each film with plenty of opportunity for lively discussion. Some of the films are geared toward adults and others are family friendly. It would be wonderful to have some of our younger members join the conversation for those movies!
we will be discussing the powerful Israeli film, The Lemon Tree, which was released in 2008. The film distills the Israeli- Palestinian conflict in the West Bank into the story of a Palestinian widow's efforts to save her olive grove from being destroyed because the trees present a security risk to the Israeli defense minister who has moved next door. She takes her fight all the way to the Israeli Supreme Court. As the story unfolds, the wife of the Israeli defense minister and the Palestinian woman form an unlikely although silent bond. The film, which won numerous Israeli and International awards, is moving, thought-provoking and controversial. Let us discuss this film with respect for divergent views on a difficult topic. Our moderator is tbd. The film is available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
Looking forward to lively discussions about these films! Please be in touch with Karen Mayer at karen@beaconhebrewalliance.org if you would like to moderate a film discussion.
