Searching For Our Own Letters of the Torah
Searching For Our Own Letters of the Torah
There is a Jewish tradition that each one of us has our own particular letter of the Torah. There is one letter that speaks directly to each of us, and there is one letter that each of us brings, without which the total loses meaning. This year in Masa, part of our Jewish journey will be a search for our own letters of the Torah. We invite all members of the community to join us, and to share their own particular “letter of the Torah.” What is it about Judaism that particularly speaks to you? What piece of yourself do you bring to help make up the whole of our community? If you are interested in sharing something with our students, whether it is speaking for a few minutes or leading a longer session, please contact me at julia@beaconhebrewalliance.org.
Our Community Summer Shabbat picnic is coming up soon, on August 3rd. We will have crafts and activities for children (and for children at heart!) beginning at 5pm. This year, instead of having the children make a craft project that they might or might not take home, we will be decorating containers and filling them with school supplies to donate to children in our community whose families cannot otherwise provide what they need for school. We will bring all school supplies donated to Pastor Ed Benson at the New Vision Church of Deliverance.
We’ve got a lot of great projects coming up this year! Our first day of Friday Masa, and our first community potluck, will be on September 7th, and our first Sunday will be September 9th--erev Rosh Hashanah. Make sure to register your children before August 15th! We will resume Mini Minyan on September 14th.
Please also make sure to register your children for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services, if they will be attending. We can plan meaningful, age-appropriate activities more easily when we know how many children of each age will be joining us!
Looking further ahead, we will be having Grandfriends’ day this year in November. If you are interested in being a grandfriend to one of the children in our community, please get in touch with me!
