Remembering the Past and Celebrating the Future

Each year during the Days of Awe, we dedicate ourselves to the process of remembering and renewing: we remember those we have lost; we recall our past deeds and promises; and we renew our commitment to mitzvot, to one another, and to our community.

When we recite yizkor, we renew and strengthen our connection with loved ones who have passed on. The prayer is a personal pledge to give charity in honor of those who are being remembered.

Both celebrating and remembering are central to the Days of Awe.

We articulate our hopes for the year to come by celebrating the accomplishments of the year gone past - marriages celebrated, children and grandchildren born, professional milestones reached. If you had opportunity to wish someone a mazal tov in the past year, we hope you’ll share the joy with the whole community by clicking here.

Of course, we remember our loved ones at Yizkor, when we renew and strengthen our connection with them. The prayer is a personal pledge to give charity in honor of those who are being remembered. If there is someone you would like to be remembered in our communal remembrances, please click here.

All remembrances and celebrations will be listed in BHA's Sources for Reflection and Renewal, which will be available during the holidays.  Please submit by August 30th.
