Position: Education Director

Beacon Hebrew Alliance is looking for a new Director of Family Learning.

We are a rapidly growing synagogue organized around the big idea that Judaism is a pool of living waters in which to swim, rather than a fragile heirloom we're afraid of breaking. We are a community which enthusiastically engages with Judaism in the sanctuary, on the forest trail, in the soup kitchen and in the art gallery.

We’re looking for an experienced educator who is self-motivated, engaging, innovative, organized, and has strong communication skills. We’re looking for a leader who is excited and capable of leading a team to teach Judaism as a subject of the deepest personal significance.

Our new director will serve in a planning and supervising capacity, taking a “hands on” approach to ensure that both on-line and in-person programs are successful.

The Director of Family Learning will be responsible for:

  • directing our MASA program for children aged 5-14.

  • creating informal and formal educational opportunities which speak to the full life of the synagogue.

  • developing our staff, including performance evaluation and feedback.

  • supervising our thriving preschool program.

  • developing and overseeing invigorating and meaningful coming of age ceremonies for our b'nai mitzvah aged students.
  • creating youth programming for the various holidays including the High Holidays, Hanukkah and Purim.
  • cultivating reliable administrative processes for budgeting and communicating the educational goals of BHA.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Exceptional leadership, communication and project-management skills.

  • A progressive, student-centered approach to education, and a willingness to explore new technologies and modes of learning.

  • The ability to work creatively and flexibly with our clergy (Rabbi Brent Spodek and Cantor Ellen Gersh), our lay leadership and the larger community.

  • The ability to coach and lead a diverse array of community educators in a collaborative and collegial work environment.

  • The ability to inspire others with his or her love of Judaism.

  • Strong knowledge of Judaism, Hebrew and Jewish education.

This is a 20/hr a week position with a salary of $30,000 - $35,000. Hudson Valley candidates and others willing to commute to Beacon are preferred, but we will consider candidates who can be in Beacon at least twice a month, with other work being done remotely. Depending on the interests and skill-set of the candidate, there are promising opportunities for collaboration with Surprise Lake Camp.

Interested candidates should fill out the form below.
