7:00 PM - 8:30 PMBHA, 331 Verplanck Ave., Beacon

From Beacon to the Border: In the summer of 2018, a group of outraged Grandparents from Beacon, NY took a road trip to McAllen, Texas protesting the separation of migrant families at the U.S. border. As a result of their journey, the group formed the Overground Railroad, a nationwide network of elders that assist immigrants and refugees at bus stations across the country as they make their way to family members and community hosts who house them while they await court dates.

Throughout the film, the grandparents visit many cities along the way, including NYC, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Montgomery, New Orleans, Houston, Dilley and McAllen, Texas. Along the way they were met with inspiring rallies and more supporters joined the group.

It is an inspiring story about a small group of concerned citizens who have profoundly impacted many lives. After the movie there will be a panel of Grannies who traveled to the Border to discuss Immigration issues. There will also be a Q & A with Andrea Garbarini, the filmmaker and singing throughout the evening.

From Beacon to the Border (2019, 29 mins) Produced and Directed by Andrea Garbarini. Editors Chelsea Searles, Lucy Adams, Scott Will, Theodore Schaffer. Cinematography Andrea Garbarini, Dylan Franks, Jacob Nemec.
