History

In 1924 a group of Jewish families constituted themselves as the "Beacon Hebrew Alliance" for the purpose of holding traditional Jewish worship services and to strengthen their band of fellowship. The next year holiday services were conducted regularly in various temporary quarters, including the old Mechanics Savings Bank building and in the Odd Fellows Hall over Schuman's Army and Navy Store.

The present Synagogue and Center building of the Beacon Hebrew Alliance was built by the efforts of thirty Jewish families and in 1927 the Beacon Hebrew Alliance became incorporated.

In 1929 it was formally dedicated during a week of religious convocations and social events.

Present Day

Our Membership consists of approximately 100 families, who live in various parts of the Mid-Hudson Valley. While there are other Conservative Temples in the area, the Beacon Hebrew Alliance offers a more intimate setting for its members.

Clergy

Rabbi Josh Wohl (jowohl@gmail.com) who leads our services and offers support to our Members, joined us in September of 2007.
Cantor Ellen Gersh, who alternates Shabbat service leadership with Rabbi Josh and is also our education director, has been a lifelong BHA member.
